Sea Otters

Sea Otters are my favourite animal. I like them cause they remind me of river otters. Otters help our ecosystem majorly. They eat Kelp, Sea urchins, small fish and other things. Without these creatures there would be mass emounts of Kelp and fish. Sadly Sea Otters are endangered of becoming exstinct due to oil spills and pollution. They used to be very endangered and only around 500 sea otters left. Lots of people wanted Sea otters soft fur. Thanks to lots of shoreline clean ups and less oil spills Sea otters population is getting higher but its still very low.

1. How do you think your year went in grade 6?

I think my grade 6 year went very well. I got a bit worried when I had to switch teachers but overall I felt Ms. Bains is an awesome teacher! The peers in my class were good as well. Overall I learned lots during grade 6. I look forward to grade 7. Somethings I struggled was math, it takes me a bit of time to figure it out. Another thing I need help with is staying on task. When people talk I tend to talk as well.

2. What was something that was very memorable?

Some memorable moments I had was when I did my Science projects on space. I did Neptune. It was really fun. I also enjoyed it when we did the social emotional learning project because we do lots of self regulation so I found it fun.

3.Looking back on your reading and comprehension throughout the year, what was thing you were really proud of (think back to our literature circles or novels that we read together)

Looking back on my reading and comprehension. Somethings I was proud of the marks I was getting on the `Touching Spirit Bear`. I mostly got 3 `s and 4`s. The novel I enjoyed the most this year was `My Name Is Seepeetza` I enjoyed it because in grade 5 we did a unit on residential schools so I felt like I knew a lot on it. I was also proud of my L.A. because learned how to write good paragraphs when we did the traits of writing unit.

4.What was one thing you struggled with in terms of reading and writing and that you should continue to work on.

One thing I think I should work on in terms of reading is reading aloud. I can fix this by reading aloud when I read, so I get comfortable with reading aloud. I hope I can improve my reading by grade 7.

5.What writing piece were you most proud of (Personal, Story or Persuasive)

One piece of writing I am proud of the `Touching Spirit Bear` summary because it took me a really long time and I felt like I used a good summary , because I put alot of hard work into it. I also used lots of transition words that are powerful.

6. What was one thing you think you still need to work on throughout all of your writing? How do you think you still need to work on this?

To improve my writing, I need to work on using more transition words and I need to work on not using the same word and having a good vocabulary.

7. We have talked a lot about communication skills (how to communicate with your peers and your teachers in small or large groups) What is one thing  that you do well in terms of communication and one thing you think you should keep working on.

One thing that I do well on in terms of communication.is helping my peers if they are stuck on something. I think I need to work on getting my work done instead of talking.

8. Do you think you do a good job asking for help when you need it? How do you know you are good at asking for asking or not? I think I gained lots of help from Lst. I think I do a good job at asking for help.

9. In math we learned lots of things this year. Talk about a time when you struggled with something in math. What was it and how did you get better at it?

In math when I learned the Mode, Median, Mean and Range. I always forgot which one was which. Then Ms. Bains helped me and told me ways to remember them and now I get how to do it.

10. What was one thing you were really proud of in math this year- Something you think you did really well or a challenge you overcame?

One thing I was really proud of in my math this year is my fraction unit because at first I struggled but after a little practise I learned how to do it.

11. We spent a lot of time learning about social emotional learning about what Social Emotional Learning. How do you self regulate? How do you promote Social Emotional Learning around you?(Think to your morning zones of regulation)

I self regulate by every morning I tell people how I`m feeling using the Z.O.R chart. We could promote social emotional learning by sharing our feelings with others.

12. How did you like project based learning? What was your strengths? What could you work on in the future?

I really liked project based learning? what was your strengths? What could you work on in the future?

I really liked project based learning because I got to be really creative and have different options on what kind of project I wanted to do.

13. You experienced different types of innovative learning within our classroom such as blogs, coding, choice, passion projects etc. How did this best support your learning ? what did you like about it?

I think it helped having choice to do writing or blogging. I also liked having passion time because I am passionate about drawing.

14. Every day you never sat in the same spot, you had a different seat to start off your morning how did this benefit your learning? What did you like about it?

I sat with different people each week it benefited because I got become friends with everyone.

15. My goals over the summer are...

My goals for the summer are to continue reading 30 minutes each day.

19. What did you learn about aboriginal education this year?

I learned lots about residential schools but I didn`t know exactly what happened inside residential schools. I learned that the kids who go to school stay at the school for 10 months and only see they`re families for 2 months. I wouldn`t like it if I lived at school. Ms. Bains also tought me that we are on Coast Salish land!
